Ian Harte (born August 31, 1977 in Drogheda , Ireland ) is a former Irish football player.

career

In 1995, Harte moved from Irish club Home Farm to English club Leeds United . There he played nine seasons. During his time at Leeds United, he was courted by AC Milan and FC Barcelona, among others . However, in 2004 Harte decided for the Spanish club Levante UD. From there he moved back to England in the summer of 2007, to Sunderland FC . After further stops at FC Blackpool and Carlisle United , he decided in 2011 to move to the English second division club Reading FC . The 33-year-old Harte (40 games / 11 goals) had an excellent playing time, which contributed to the fact that his new club finished the regular season in the Football League Championship 2010/11 in fifth place. After a success over Cardiff City in the play-off semi-finals Reading moved into the final at Wembley . There, however, the team failed with 2: 4 to Swansea City . Ian Harte was chosen for his good performance in the PFA Team of the Year of the second division.

Irish national team

The Irishman also played for the national team from 1996 to 2007 , where he was used on the left defensive side. He scored twelve goals in 63 international matches. Harte is known for his tough and dangerous free kicks.
