Ian Irvine (* 1950 in Bathurst , New South Wales) is an Australian marine biologist and fantasy writer who also writes ecothriller . He lives with his family in the mountains in northern New South Wales .

Life

Irvine graduated from the University of Sydney , where he earned a PhD in marine biology in 1981. The management of contaminated sediments was particularly interesting for him , which quickly made him an expert in this field. To distract himself from the hassle of studying, he began creating detailed maps and images of a fantasy world in the late 1970s, which delayed his graduation for a year and a half. Immediately after completing his studies, he started working for an international consulting firm, from which he left after two failed expeditions and then founded a consulting company himself.

Several eventful years followed, working both in Australia and internationally ( Mauritius , Bali , Fiji ). During this time he helped, among other things, to develop the national guidelines for the protection of the ocean. As early as 1987, the scientific work was no longer enough and Irvine began to create his first fantasy project ( The View From The Mirror ), using the drawings he made from his student days as a basis.
