Iberduero

Iberduero (IBEX 35: IBE) was a Spanish company dedicated to the generation and distribution of electrical energy and was founded in Bilbao in 1944 as a result of the merger of Hidroeléctrica Ibérica and Saltos del Duero .

Listed on the Madrid Stock Exchange, the company was one of the leading Spanish companies in the electricity sector and merged with Spanish Hydroelectric to form Iberdrola , one of the top five global companies in the sector, in a takeover bid in 1992 . Iberduero's thermoelectric program began in the 1960s. In 1965 IBE built the Burceña thermal power station in Barakaldo , in 1968 the Pasajes thermal power station and in 1969 the Santurce thermal power station .

In 1970 Iberduero produced around 20% of the electricity used in Spain. The energy generated was conducted to Madrid and Bizkaia via the Esla-Valladolid-Madrid and Esla-Valladolid-Bilbao overhead lines .

Iberduero's share capital at the time of the merger was 530 million pesetas .
