Ibiranu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ibiranu (VI.) Was king of the city-state of Ugarit in today's Syria . He ruled around 1240-1225 BC. Chr.

The son of King Ammistamru II became crown prince when his older half-brother Utri-Sarruma fell out of favor with his father as a result of his parents' divorce dispute.

A Hittite prince accused Ibiranu of not having made an inaugural visit to the great king: “ The sun (presumably Tudḫaliya IV ) is very angry about this affair. Hurry up to send your messengers with presents for the king and for me. “The young king of Ugarit seems to have complied, but there is a letter from the Ugaritic ambassador Takhulu to his king at the court of Hattuša that the great king felt ridiculed by the inferior stones and that the best lapis lazuli should be sent.

Relations with the Hittites worsened when Viceroy Talmi-Teššup demanded the immediate dispatch of soldiers and chariots from Karkemish . Ugarit had so far always fulfilled his military duties as a vassal immediately - but Ibiranu delayed the deployment by repeatedly asking about number, type, equipment etc. and asking for a delay, since the regiments also had to be increased first.

After Ibiranu his son Niqmaddu III became. King.
