Talmi-Teššup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Talmi-Teššup (also Talmi-Teschschup, Talmi-Teschup ) ruled from the end of the 13th century BC. Until the beginning of the twelfth century BC As king of Karkemiš . Under him, Karkemiš survived the first troubled years after the fall of the Hittite kingdom .

A seal from Ugarit has him as the son and successor of I. ini teshub out. As King of Karkemiš he was the deputy of the Hittite king in Syria and was able to make decisions independently. So he arranged the divorce of the Hittite princess Eḫli-Nikkal from the Ugarite king Ammurapi .

Fragments of a treaty found in Ḫattuša between Talmi-Teššup and Šuppiluliuma II. (CTH 122) suggest that the king of Karkemiš was virtually equal to the great king of Hatti in the final phase of the Hittite empire.

He was succeeded by his son Kuzi-Teššup , who called himself the great king. This is proven by a seal found in Lidar Höyük and inscriptions from the kings of Melid , today's Malatya .
