Arnuwanda III.

Arnuwanda III. († after 1220/15 BC) was a Hittite great king.

Life

Arnuwanda was a son of Tudḫaliyas IV. When this about 1220/1215 BC. Died, Arnuwanda became great king, but died after probably only a short reign. The sources report that the people of the land of Ḫattuša rose up against him. Thereupon his brother Šuppiluliuma became great king. Nothing is known about the further circumstances of the uprising, with the exception of the fact that Arnuwanda - in which way is not mentioned - died. Suppiluliuma asked everywhere, presumably to justify himself, whether there was a woman who was pregnant by Arnuwanda. But no one was found.
