Arnuwanda II
Arnuwanda II was a great king of the Hittite Empire in the late 14th century BC. Chr.
Arnuwanda was the son of the Hittite great king Šuppiluliuma I. During the reign of his father, he led successful campaigns in Syria . So he commanded, among other things, together with his brother Zida , an army that intervened on behalf of the heir to the throne Šattiwazza in Mittani . When Šuppiluliuma died of an epidemic, Arnuwanda became great king. However, he soon fell ill with the same disease from which his father died.
To the southwest of Ḫattuša Ḫannutti , who had successfully fought against the Kaškäer , ruled as governor. In Karkemiš and Ḫalpa his younger brothers Šarri-Kušuḫ and Telipinu were viceroys. These kept the country calm. Since Arnuwanda's son died before him, his younger brother Muršili followed him as great king.
