The Ida-Höhe near Greiz in Thuringia is a historical attraction of the district town and part of the Princely Greizer Park .

Geographical

The hill is located in the northern part of the park and is 320 meters above sea ​​level . The hiking trail to the Ida-Höhe begins in the park at the Luftbrücke and leads through the valley of the Weißen Elster into the forest of the Gommlaer Forst directly to the hill.

history

The Ida-Höhe was designed together with the Valley of the Eleventh Hour , at the suggestion of Prince Heinrich XXII , who was then reigning , in 1876 by the park director Rudolph Reinecken in the style of the park and named in honor of Princess Ida zu Schaumburg-Lippe (1852-1891). After completion of the hill, this place became one of the favorite places of the royal family due to its view and the wooded surroundings.

Monument setting

On the Ida-Höhe there is a monument that was erected on April 19, 1914 by his children in memory of the last reigning Prince Heinrich XXII. was inaugurated. The memorial consists of Klingstein and a memorial plaque. During the GDR era, the inscription on the plaque was replaced by a stanza from Goethe's poem “Over all peaks there is peace” . The original inscription on the former bronze relief plaque, which was removed after the end of the Second World War , is not known. Due to the weathered condition of the board, a privately motivated, meanwhile publicly supported fundraising campaign was launched at the end of 2017 with the aim of renewing the board.
