Ida Seele , married Vogeler (born April 20, 1825 in Nordhausen , Thuringia; † October 15, 1901 there ), was the first Froebel kindergarten teacher .

Live and act

Johanne Friederike Ida Seele grew up in poor health as the seventh child in poor circumstances. She lost her mother in early childhood. She would have liked to become a teacher, but could not take up this profession due to lack of money. In 1843, at the age of 18, she went to see Friedrich Froebel , the founder of the kindergarten , in Blankenburg , to train as a kindergarten teacher. After completing her training, Froebel gave her the management of his first kindergarten founded in 1840 in the village. She only worked there for a short time, as the kindergarten had to shut down due to “insufficient firing”.

On the advice of her teacher, Ida Seele moved to Darmstadt , where she worked in a toddler school for 14 years. She then worked for a short time as the head of a girls' school in Landsberg an der Warthe before moving to Berlin in 1860. There she ran several kindergartens and taught at the kindergarten teachers' seminar of the Berlin women's association for the promotion of Froebel kindergartens . She gave theoretical and practical demonstrations of Froebel's toys and activities and storytelling lessons . In addition, she was involved in the Berlin “Free Community”.

Ida Seele published a few small papers. The stories for children from two to seven years of age appeared in 1862 . For use in the home, in kindergarten and in small schools , which have had some success. 1864 poems for early childhood for use in the home, for kindergarten and toddler school , later “memories of Friedrich Fröbel”.

In 1865 Ida Seele married Wilhelm Vogeler. With him she returned to Nordhausen in 1879 at the age of 54. She died there on October 15, 1901 of complications from pneumonia. Her gravestone received the inscription: "This is where the first kindergarten teacher in the world rests - called Froebel Ida".
