Idarubicin , also 4-demethoxidaunorubicin, is a substance belonging to the anthracyclines .
use
It is used as a cytostatic agent as part of the combination chemotherapy for acute leukemia.
Idarubicin is a DNA - intercalator . The lack of a methoxy group compared to daunorubicin improves fat solubility and thus the uptake into the cell, where it then comes to growth-inhibiting interaction with topoisomerase II .
