Idris Rahman (born July 16, 1976 in Chichester , West Sussex ) is a British jazz musician (clarinet, saxophone) and music producer with Bengali roots.

Live and act

Rahman, like his sister, the pianist Zoe Rahman, was raised by a Bengali father and a British doctor (who grew up in New Zealand).

Rahman first worked in his sister's quintet, then as a saxophonist and co-leader with the Soothsayers , whose debut album Tangled Roots (Red Earth Records, 2006) reflected both Jamaican music and West African Afrobeat . Three more albums with this group, which performed all over Europe, followed. Together with his sister Zoe Rahman, he presented the album Where Rivers Meet , dedicated to his father, in 2008 , which processed Bengali folklore, film and pop music from the 1950s.

Rahman is part of the sextet of Arun Ghosh , Jonny Phillips group Oriole and was involved in the album Forty Thieves Orkestar by Aidan Love. He has also worked as a saxophonist with Osibisa , Ayub Ogada, Dodgy, Reem Kelani and Julia Biel .
