Idrissou Mora Kpaï

Idrissou Mora Kpaï (born July 14, 1967 in Béroubouay , Borgou department ) is a Beninese documentary filmmaker living in Europe .

Life

The son of ranchers moved from his hometown to his grandfather in the port city of Cotonou at the age of 13 , where he attended school. At the age of 19, Mora Kpaï first came to Algeria and then emigrated to Germany via Italy . There he studied American studies from 1988 to 1993 at the Free University of Berlin and from 1994 to 1998 film and television directing at the Konrad Wolf University of Film and Television . During this time he made several short films, including Fake Soldiers , which was shown at the FESPACO film festival in 1999 .

In 1999 Idrissou Mora Kpaï moved to Paris , where he founded a film production company specializing in documentaries . His first full-length documentary, Si-Gueriki, la reine-mère , produced in 2002 , brought him international attention. The film was shown at the Cannes Film Festival 2003 , the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Copenhagen International Film Festival and was awarded Best Documentary at the Festival international du film francophone de Namur .
