Borgou is a department of Benin with the capital Parakou .

geography

The department is located in the east of the country and is bordered by the Alibori department to the north, the Collines department to the south, the Atakora department to the northwest, the Donga department to the west and Nigeria to the east .

Ethnic groups

The largest races are the Bariba with 37.6%, the Fulbe with 20.0%, the Gando with 9.9%, the Nagot with 4.3%, the Dendi with 3.7% and the Fon with 3.0 % Of the total population.

religion

Around two thirds (exactly 66.3%) of the residents are followers of Islam . One fifth (19.7%) profess Christianity (of which 77% are Catholics and around 7% Methodists). The rest belong to traditional religions.
