The department is located in the southwest of the country and borders in the north with the department Couffo , in the south with the Atlantic , in the west with Togo and in the east with the department Atlantique .

Ethnic groups

The largest peoples are the Sahoue with 39.9% and the Kotafon with 21.3% of the population.

Religions

The largest single religion is the Voudou cult with (officially) 40.5% followers of the entire population. Christianity follows immediately with 33.6% (including 61% Catholics and 28% followers of African Independent Churches). The Islam is represented with a share of 1.3%.
