Idriz Seferi (1910)

Idriz Seferi (* 1847 in Sefer west of Preševo , † March 25, 1927 ) was a leader of the Albanian national movement.

At a young age he fought against the cultural and economic oppression by the Ottomans . In 1875 he was captured by the Ottoman authorities. After his release, he participated in several Albanian uprisings and was a member of the League of Prizren and the League of Peja , which met in January 1899. Like Isa Boletini , he was one of the most important leaders of the Albanian uprisings in Kosovo in 1910, in which Albanians, enraged by new taxes, began to fight for their rights. Seferi was involved in the liberation of the cities of Ferizaj , Skopje , Kumanovo , Presheva and Gjilan from Ottoman troops. During the fighting in the Kaçanik Gorge from April 23 to 29, 1910, he led 5,000 Albanian fighters, who stopped an Ottoman army of almost 20,000 men there, which was able to end the uprising in the end.

The uprisings against the Young Turkish Government in the spring of 1912, in which Boletini and Bajram Curri were also involved, were led in the highly competitive environment of Ferizaj von Seferi. From October 1912 - during the First Balkan War - he fought with thousands of Albanian soldiers against Serbs near Bujanovac , Kumanovo, Llapi and Gollaku. He is considered to be one of the leaders of the Albanian uprisings of 1916, when Kosovo was occupied by Bulgarian troops during World War I.

Idriz Seferi died peacefully in his bed.
