Bujanovac ( Serbian - Cyrillic Бујановац , Albanian Bujanoc / -i ) is a town with about 12,000 inhabitants in the Okrug Pčinja in southern Serbia . It is the capital of the Opština Bujanovac .
Surname
Bujanovac is derived from Bujan, an old Serbian name, and means the " city of Bujan ". Bujan is derived from the Serbian bujati (to bloom ) and means "the blooming one".
geography
Bujanovac is located on the bank of the Southern Morava , which arises in the area of the Opština from the confluence of the Binačka Morava and the Moravica . The autoput A1 ( Belgrade - Skopje ) bypasses the city in the southeast. Bujanovac is 13 km from the border with Kosovo .
Demographics
The census carried out in 2002 determined a population of 12,011 for the city of Bujanovac, of which 4,329 (36.04%) saw themselves as Serbs, 3859 (32.13%) as Roma and 3590 (29.89%) as Albanians.
There are no reliable figures for 2011 as the census was boycotted by many non-Serbs.
