Ignacio Anaya García

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ignacio Anaya García (born August 15, 1895 in Acuña , Coahuila , Mexico , † 1975 in Piedras Negras , Coahuila, Mexico) was a restaurant owner and inventor of nachos , a typical Mexican dish that became famous worldwide.

Life

Anaya is originally from Acuña and lived in the same state in Piedras Negras, Mexico for 18 years. There, he developed his most famous dish, the nachos (alluding to the use of the word as a family pet form of the first name Ignacio). He married María Antonieta Salinas and had nine children.

In 1960 he founded his own restaurant, El Nacho .

Invention of the nachos

The origins are in Piedras Negras in 1943. There are several versions of his creation; the best known is that a group of wives of the US military came to the Victoria Club (later called The Modern ), where he worked as a waiter. Since, depending on the version, either the chef could not be found, they had come too late when the shop was about to close, or because it was still too early and not many ingredients were available for the preparation of her menu, Anaya improvised and took some fried tortillas in the shape of a triangle (or totopos ) to put in the oven, and beforehand sprinkled with some cheese and some chili peppers in strips. To their surprise, they liked it even though the dish was improvised. They asked for the name and received the answer "Nacho". Later it was offered permanently under the name Nacho's Especiales .

Honors

On his 124th birthday, Ignacio Anaya was honored by the search engine Google with a doodle that shows him creating his first nacho.
