Ignacio Pavon (called Pépito Pavon ; born February 12, 1941 in Madrid , † October 16, 2012 in La Ciotat ) was a French football player of Spanish origin.

Career

The 160 centimeter tall midfielder Pavon, who was mainly deployed on the right wing , came from Spain to his new home France as a child and began playing football at ESCN La Ciotat, which is based in the south of the country . He aroused the interest of the neighboring professional club Olympique Marseille , which signed him in 1960 for his second-rate team. On August 21, 1960, the then 19-year-old made his debut in a 2-2 draw against Girondins Bordeaux in the second division and first became a regular before he was relegated to a substitute in the second half of the season. In the following season 1961/62 he was set again in most cases and part of a team that was promoted to the top national league at the end of the season. He made his first division debut on October 28, 1962 in a 3-0 defeat by Olympique Nîmes . Then he had to be content with sporadic missions and at the end of the 1962/63 season, moreover, had to accept direct relegation. Even after that, he failed to return to the team, which is why he left Marseille in the summer of 1964.

After failing to assert himself at Marseille, he returned to La Ciotat. He disappeared for several years in the amateur field before he was promoted to the second division with the team in 1970. As a regular player, he contributed to the fact that relegation was achieved twice in the following seasons, before relegation in 1973 was no longer avoidable. In 1974 he gave up playing football at the age of 33 and ended a career in which he had come to eight first division games without a goal and 128 second division games with 13 goals. His son Michel Pavon (* 1968) was also a professional footballer from 1986.
