Ignacy Schiper

Ignacy Schiper ( Yitzhak , Ignaz Schipper ) (born November 9, 1884 in Tarnów , † 1943 ) was a Polish historian .

He studied in Krakow and Vienna and obtained a doctorate in law .

Schiper was involved in the Poalei Zion and served as its Polish representative from 1919 to 1922. Then he broke with Marxist doctrine and joined the General Zionists . At the Institute for Jewish Studies ( YIVO ) founded in Warsaw in 1927 , he gave lectures on Jewish economic history.

During the uprising in the Warsaw ghetto he was deported to Majdanek , where he died of exhaustion.
