Ignatius Maass

Ignatius Maaß OSB (* 1957 in Elm-Sprengen , born as Michael Maaß ) is a German Benedictine monk and abbot of the Benedictine Abbey of St. Matthias in Trier .

Life

After studying theology and philosophy at the Trier Theological Faculty and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , he was ordained priest in the High Cathedral in Trier in 1984 . Then he was chaplain in the parish Heiligkreuz and St. Maternus in Trier. In 1987 he entered the Benedictine Abbey of St. Matthias, where he made his profession in 1988 . From 1989 to 2000 he worked within the convent as a cellar and in the exercises as a spiritual guide. After spending a year and a half as a sub prior and pastor on the Huysburg , he was pastor of the parish of St. Matthias in Trier from September 2002 to August 2005. On August 23, 2005, he was elected Abbot of St. Matthias by the convent to succeed Ansgar Schmidt . The office in St. Matthias is always transferred to eight years. In addition, he is also active as a Magister for the introduction and training of new brothers within the convent.
