(Jacob) Ignaz Schweickardt (born November 9, 1811 in Hochheim am Main , † January 4, 1858 in Wiesbaden ) was a cooper and founder of a sparkling wine cellar.

His father was the innkeeper Johann Baptist Schweickardt, who took over the Gasthaus Burg Ehrenfels in Hochheim am Main in 1809 .

Ignaz Schweickardt learned the cooper's trade in Hochheim. In 1828 his godfather Eduard Werle brought him to the Clicquot champagne house in Reims, where he got to know bottle fermentation .

In 1830 he returned from France because of the July Revolution and two years later began producing Mussie (Mousseux), sparkling wine. In 1834 he increased the price from one to 2 guilders and 24 kreuzers.

In 1836 he met Carl Burgeff's brother Johann, whose mother granted a loan. With Carl as commercial director, he founded the Burgeff & Schweickardt champagne factory . Ignaz always had to help his mother in the restaurant.

After falling out, he invested in Henkell in 1855 and failed two years later. Since he wanted to found his own sparkling wine cellar, he left the company in 1857 in return for a severance payment of 252,000 guilders.
