Igor Alexandrowitsch Meltschuk ( Russian И́горь Алекса́ндрович Мельчу́к , scientific transliteration Igorʹ Aleksandrovič Melʹčuk ; born October 19, 1932 in Odessa ) is a Russian-Canadian linguist. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Montreal in the Department of Linguistics and Translation.

Meltschuk visited the Philogische Faculty of MGU . From 1956 he worked at the Institute for Linguistics of the Soviet Academy of Sciences . After an open letter in support of the dissidents Andrei Sakharov and Sergei Kowaljow to the New York Times , which appeared there on January 25, 1976, Meltschuk was dismissed. As a result, he emigrated from the Soviet Union in 1976 . He has lived and worked in Canada since 1977 .

Meltschuk is the creator of the meaning-text model and author of numerous works on morphology, syntax and other areas of linguistics.
