Igor Dolgachev

Life

Dolgachev studied at Lomonosov University , where he graduated in 1966 and received his doctorate in 1970 from Igor Schafarewitsch . In 1977 he left the Soviet Union and was from 1978 at the University of Michigan , where he is a professor.

In algebraic geometry , he dealt with classic questions such as invariant theory and algebraic surfaces and various symmetries of algebraic varieties , some of which were inspired by string theory (McKay correspondence, after John McKay , mirror symmetry). The Dolgachev area is named after him (1981).
