Camille Butcher

Camille Butcher (born November 24, 1980 in Newport ) is a British-French opera singer with a soprano voice .

Life

Butcher was born in Wales and studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff between 2002 and 2006 , then at the Karlsruhe University of Music and the Lübeck University of Music . From 2009 to 2011 she was a member of the International Opera Studio in Zurich and sang at the Zurich Opera House, among others, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel and the first solo part and first naked maiden in Moses and Aron .

Already during her studies she appeared as First Witch in Georg Friedrich Handel's Dido and Aeneas , in the title role in Carl Orff's Die Kluge and as Laura in Carl Millöcker's Der Bettelstudent in Karlsruhe and Lübeck and sang Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro at the Pforzheim Theater . In 2009 Camille Butcher took on the role of Anna Reich in The Funny Wives of Windsor at Weikersheim Castle . She made her debut in 2010 in Bregenz as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte . In the 2010/11 season she sang Papagena in Die Zauberflöte at the Nationaltheater Mannheim . In 2011/2012 she was a guest member of the Salzburg State Theater ensemble . 2012–2015 Butcher was a member of the ensemble at the Konzert Theater Bern .

Sigfrid Schibli reviewed the production of Tannhäuser at the Zurich Opera House in the Basler Zeitung and emphasized: “ The young shepherd of Camille Butcher is a ray of hope. “For Marianne Mühlemann from Der Bund , Butcher's“ touching desperation aria “Oh I feel” […] is one of the highlights ”in Nigel Lowery's Magic Flute at the Bern Konzert Theater. For the documentary film “The Beauty of the Voice” on Swiss television and Arte, director Sabine Gisiger accompanied Butcher's training at the Zurich Opera Studio for a year with the camera.
