Igor Sakharovich Sinelnikow ( Russian Игорь Захарович Синельников ; born March 11, 1942 in Tbilisi ; † May 1, 2020 in Moscow ) was one of the first and strongest shogi players in Russia and since 2010 president of the Russian shogi association .

It had its highest international ranking on January 1, 2014 with fourth place in the Russian and 47th place in the European FESA list.

Life

In 1960 he graduated from Astrakhan Fish College with a degree in industrial fisheries. He learned Shogi in 1973 on a Japanese fishing vessel. In the 1974/75 season he worked as a translator on a Japanese whaler and played there regularly with the captain Shogi and chess.

In the 1980s he regularly played shogi with a group of like-minded Russian people from Kamchatka .

During a stay in Moscow in 2003 he found out about the existence of Russian shogi clubs and since then has been actively participating in Russian tournaments and advertising campaigns relating to shogi in Russia.

Career in Shogi

Shogi met Sinelikov in the 1970s and played it with passion, but, as was common in Europe at the time, rarely because there were few opportunities. The situation improved slightly in the 1980s as there were like-minded people in Kamchatka whom he joined.

In 2010 he was elected President of the Russian Shogi Association.
