Iheya-jima ( Japanese 伊 平 屋 島 ) is an island in the Okinawa Islands and part of the Ryūkyū chain of islands .

Iheya-jima has an area of ​​20.66 km² and is surrounded by a coral reef. The island is connected to the island of Noho-jima (1.06 km²), on which the district of Noho is located , with a 680 meter long bridge . The two islands together with other rocks form the community ( mura , "village") Iheya of Okinawa Prefecture .

As of March 31, 2011, there were 1,202 inhabitants in 501 households on the island, which is more than 90% of the community's population. The main economic sectors of the municipality are agriculture and fishing .

2 km further south is the island of Gushikawa-shima as the northernmost part of the neighboring municipality of Izena with the main island of Izena-jima further south.
