Ikla
Ikla ( German Ikel ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Häädemeeste ( Häädemeeste vald ) in the Estonian district of Pärnumaa .
Location, description, history
Ikla has 178 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2010). The village is 56 kilometers southwest of Pärnu .
Ikla's houses are located a few meters from the Baltic Sea with its sandy beaches.
The village was first mentioned in 1624. The name Ikla is probably derived from the name of the Baltic German noble family Uexküll .
Ikla is on Via Baltica . The Estonian-Latvian border crossing Ikel / Haynasch is located south of the village center . The border station on the Latvian side is in Ainaži (Estonian Heinaste , German Haynasch ). Since the two countries joined the Schengen area on December 21, 2007, there have been no more passport and border controls there. Customs controls ceased when the country joined the EU on May 1, 2004.
