Sheikh Ikrima Sa'id Sabri ( Arabic عكرمة سعيد عبد الله صبري, DMG ʿIkrima Saʿīd ʿAbd Allāh Ṣabrī ; * 1939 in Qalqiliya ) was Grand Mufti of Jerusalem from October 1994 to July 2006 and head of the Jerusalem Waqf Authority .

Life

Sabri's father was a judge in Nablus . There he completed his school education and then studied Islamic law and the Arabic language in Baghdad until 1963 . He completed this course with a bachelor's degree . He obtained his master's degree in 1989 at the University of Nablus . Sabri received his PhD from al-Azhar University in 2001. Sheikh Sabri is married with five children.

Sabri founded a council of ulamas and preachers in Palestine in 1992 and was also chairman of the high fatwa council in Palestine and preacher in the Al-Aqsa mosque . When the seat of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem became vacant in October 1994, both the Jordanian and Palestinian sides appointed a successor. Sheikh Sabri, appointed by Palestinian President Yasser Arafat , was eventually appointed. In July 2006, Sabri was deposed by Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas , who appointed Muhammad Ahmad Hussein as his successor.

On February 20, 2005, he appeared on the Saudi Arabian satellite TV channel Al-Majd to comment on the attack on the vehicle convoy of Rafik Hariri , the former Lebanese Prime Minister. Sabri stated that anyone who studies the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and especially the Talmud , will notice that one of the goals of the Protocols is to create uncertainty and undermine security around the world.

He was one of the 138 signatories of the open letter a common word between us and you ( english A Common Word Between Us and You ), the personalities of Islam on 13 October 2007, "Christian leader churches everywhere" (Engl. "Leaders of Christian Churches, everywhere ... ").
