Il Balletto di Bronzo is an Italian progressive rock band that was formed in Naples in the late 1960s .

Band history

The band initially called itself Battitori Selvaggi and played beat music . After being renamed Il Balletto di Bronzo, their debut album Sirio 2222 was released in 1970 , on which psychedelic hard rock could be heard. After that, the line-up changed, the founding members Cecione and Cupaiuolo were replaced by Gianni Leone and Vito Manzari. Since Leone was now a keyboardist in the band, their style changed. The second album Ys was released in 1972, was assigned to progressive rock and is now considered a classic of the genre. In the early 1970s, however, the band was unsuccessful; it disbanded in 1973.

Band leader Leone was active as a solo artist under the pseudonym Leo Nero for 20 years. In the 1990s a compilation with unreleased pieces and an EP with English-language versions of two pieces by Ys were released . After Leone had worked with the band Divae in 1995, he re-formed Il Balletto di Bronzo with their bassist Romolo Amici and drummer Ugo Vantini. A live album was recorded with this line-up in 1996 and was released in 1999. A live DVD was released in 2008 with bassist Marco Capozi and drummer Adolfo Ramundo.
