Ilewitt
Ilewitt ( Danish Ileved ) is a settlement on the Schwansen peninsula in Schleswig-Holstein . The place is about 4 km from the Baltic Sea and belongs to the municipality of Loose ( Rendsburg-Eckernförde district ), the main town of which is Loose, about 2 km southwest of Ilewitt.
Ilewitt was the Meierhof of the Saxtorf estate until 1799 . Three years after the owner's death (1863), the property was divided into New and Old Ilewitt by lot in 1866. The place name is composed of Ile for Danish. Igle ≈ leech (cf. Old Norse īgull ) and -witt for Danish. ved ≈ (cleared) forest together.
