Ilha Solteira is the third largest hydropower plant in Brazil and is operated by the electricity supplier CESP . It stands on the Río Paraná between the cities of Ilha Solteira (in the state of São Paulo ) and Selvíria (in Mato Grosso do Sul ). The Rio Paranaíba and the Rio Grande flow into the reservoir and merge into the Paraná.

In Brazil there are only two larger hydropower plants: Itaipú and Tucuruí . Worldwide, Ilha Solteira is among the 20 most powerful hydropower plants. The installed capacity is 3444 MW, which are obtained from 20 Francis turbines . Other sources speak of 3230 or 3504 MW.

The reservoir is 1,195 km² in size and contains a maximum of 21,166 million cubic meters. It is dammed by a barrier structure, which consists of a combination of a dam of 3400 m and a gravity dam of 975 m in length. The total length is given in various sources as 5605 or 6185 m.

The Ilha Solteira dam is connected to the Três Irmãos hydropower plant by the Pereira Barreto Canal, which is 9600 m long . There is also a connection to the Souza Dias hydroelectric power station ( Jupiá reservoir ).
