The ATE Ib were express train - tender locomotives of the kk priv. Aussig-Teplitzer Eisenbahn (ATE).

history

In 1886, ATE ordered double-coupled, three-cylinder locomotives from Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik to transport the 100–150 t heavy bath express trains to Karlsbad . In addition to the track numbers 3–5, the locomotives were given the names STEPHENSON , FULTON and WATT . In 1897 four more locomotives with the track numbers 70–73 and the names BURG , GERSTNER , WERSIN and REDTENBACHER were procured.

The locomotives were able to move express trains with 4-5 two-axle wagons plus luggage wagons on the steep main line of the ATE. The 64-kilometer route from Aussig to Komotau was covered in 90 minutes.

After the nationalization of ATE (1924), all seven locomotives went to the Czechoslovak State Railway ČSD and received the new series designation  253.2 .

Until the end of the 1920s, the locomotives were used in passenger trains on their main routes. After that, the locomotives moved to subordinate services and were gradually taken out of service. Until 1935, ATE Ib carried passenger trains on the short connecting line between Aussig Teplitzer Bahnhof and Schreckenstein. The locomotives were also used in the 1930s before the light express freight trains "Raketa" between Aussig and Komotau.

In 1937 and 1938, the locomotives 253.201 and 253.204 were the last ones to be removed from the ČSD fleet. None of the ATE Ib locomotives have been preserved in museums.
