Ilham Kadri ( Arabic إلهام قدري, DMG Ilhām Qadrī ; * February 14, 1969 in Casablanca ) is a French - Moroccan executive and former academic. Since March 1, 2019, she has been CEO , Chairwoman of the Executive Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of Solvay , a company that deals with advanced materials and specialty chemicals in Belgium.

The humanist Ilham Kadri is committed to the literacy of women, supports girls and women in MINT subjects and is a firm believer in meritocracy and mentoring . She is a passionate advocate of sustainability, a culture of inclusion and diversity and a clear corporate purpose, believing that all of these elements are critical to growth and prosperity.

Life

Kadri was born and raised in Casablanca, Morocco to a Moroccan father and French mother, and raised by her grandmother who pushed her into an education. She studied engineering at the ECPM Strasbourg (formerly École des Hauts Polymères de Strasbourg) with a focus on polymer physics and chemistry . Kadri received her PhD in macromolecular physical chemistry in 1997 .

In 1997, Kadri joined Royal Dutch Shell in Belgium as manager of development and technical service - where she was part of a team that invented a synthetic bottle stopper made from a foamed thermoplastic elastomer to prevent the spread of fungi and bacteria from the cork stopper to stored liquids.

This led to a position at LyondellBasell in France, where she worked in sales and global key account management. During her time in this role, Kadri negotiated major automotive deals, particularly in France, Latin America and Japan.

In 2002, Kadri took on a role in product management and marketing at UCB in Belgium. She was jointly responsible for the creation of the innovation processes department and came to Cytec after the chemicals business was sold .

Starting in 2005, Kadri joined Huntsman Corporation as the Marketing Director of the global epoxy business, which was sold to private equity.

In 2007, Kadri assumed the position of Marketing Director for Rohm and Haas in the paints, coatings and construction sectors; she stayed with the company until it was acquired by the Dow Chemical Company in 2009. She then became General Manager Middle East and Africa (MEA) for the entire Advanced Materials division and Commercial Director EMEA for Dow Water and Process Solutions, where she worked on expanding the company's infrastructure and introducing environmentally friendly downstream production in the region.

A great success for Kadri at Dow Chemical was the negotiation and start of construction of the first reverse osmosis membrane production (RO) for seawater desalination in Saudi Arabia.

As of 2013, Kadri served as Senior Vice President and Officer for Sealed Air Corporation , assuming the role of President for the company's hygiene and cleaning business, Diversey Care. When she joined Diversey Care, Kadri was on the turnaround of declining sales and Winning mandated, leading the reforms of the service area.

She was also a key figure in Diversey Care, which focused on a strategy of technological innovation. These include the launch of the first global range of commercial cleaning robots in the US and Europe, as well as a digital food safety management platform to help companies comply with regulations in the food industry. Originally based in the Netherlands, Kadri moved to Sealed Air's new corporate headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina when it opened in 2015.

In early 2016, Kadri was named Sealed Air's Digital Leader and was responsible for integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) across the company - with a focus on IS's digital architecture, adoption of external ecosystems, digital monetization, and robotics.

In 2017, Kadri was named President & CEO of Diversey following the acquisition of Diversey by Bain Capital .

Ilham Kadri became CEO of Solvay in March 2019. Her appointment was announced in October 2018.

  • She is a non-executive director and a member of the Audit Committee of AO Smith Corporation .
  • She became a member of the Executive Committee of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in October 2019 .
  • She is the founder and Chair Emeritus of the ISSA Hygieia network, which she and other women leaders in the cleaning industry founded in 2014. This non-profit international organization is committed to providing ongoing education, networking, professional development and recognition to women of all levels and with experience in the global cleaning industry.
  • She is a board member of Leading Executives Advancing Diversity (LEAD) in Europe for retail.

Awards and honors

Kadri received the Charlotte Business Journal Women in Business Award in 2016.

In 2016, she won four awards at the 14th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business. Her 2017 awards included Gold for Woman of the Year (Industry), Silver for Women Helping Women (Business), Silver for Female Executive of the Year (Business Products - 2,500+ employees) and Bronze for Maverick of the Year.

She also won two Women World Awards in 2017: Gold for the Women Helping Women category and Bronze for Female Leader of the Year.

In France, she was awarded the Prix Femmes d'Influence 2019 in the business category.

Ilham Kadri was named Fortune magazine's list of the Most Powerful Women in Business - International in 2019 , and came in at number 21 as one of ten newcomers.
