Iliad Panagiotaros

Ilias Panagiotaros is a member of the neo-Nazi Greek party Chrysi Avgi . He has been a member of the Greek parliament since the parliamentary elections in Greece in May 2012 .

Life

Panagiotaros owns a shop in Athens that sells camouflage clothing , hooligan clothing , face masks, nationalist t-shirts and police supplies. In October 2012, a photo of him was published in his shop, showing him in front of a photo portrait by Željko Ražnatović .

Panagiotaros is a co-founder of the Galazia Stratia (Blue Army), which was launched by nationalist football hooligans . He was also a member of the Patriotic Alliance (Greek: Πατριωτική Συμμαχία), a right-wing extremist party in Greece, which was launched in 2004.

In 2010, Panagiotaros spoke to a reporter from Le Monde diplomatique the day before the local elections of a pogrom that would result if the Chrysí Avgí were to break a municipal council in Athens.

Panagiotaros and MP Ioannis Vouldis were arrested on short notice in June 2012 . The arrest was on suspicion of an attack on a 31-year-old Pakistani.

In October 2012, Chrysí Avgí MPs and their supporters, along with conservative religious leaders, attempted to storm a theatrical performance of the play Corpus Christi , which criticizes Christianity and is by Terrence McNally , at the Hytirio Theater. Panagiotaros also took part in the protest. The police used tear gas . Ilias Panayiotaros is accused in this context of threatening the actors of the play, saying: "Your time will come". In addition, video recordings were made in which Panagiotaros is filmed, as he describes the actors and the director as gays and hookers in the presence of the police.

In an interview with Paul Mason, reporter for the BBC , in October 2012, Panagiotaros spoke of a civil war in Greece that is imminent in view of the economic developments : “On the one hand there will be nationalists like us and Greeks who want our country to be like that, as it used to be. On the other hand there will be immigrants , anarchists and all those who destroyed Athens several times ”.

Panagiotaros told NBC News: "We have to protect 10 million Greeks who are suffering from the poor economy, the murders, rape, shootings and everything else illegal immigrants do in this country."

In another interview, Panagiotaros said that Greece must find its way back to a policy that emphasizes its own culture and nationality. The Chrysí Avgí is a well-organized party, without whose help Greece, a country where two million people are illegal, would plunge into chaos.

The only racist attacks that existed in the last few are attacks that illegal immigrants carry out against Greeks, Panagiotaros said. His party is waging a very legitimate political struggle in parliament and the residential areas in Athens and Greece.

In February 2013, he asked the Greek government to install the Greek flag on the Imia islands .

In March 2013 Panagiotaros gathered with 500 supporters of the party in front of the TV channel Mega TV to protest against the broadcast of a Turkish series on Greece's Independence Day . At the end of the event, he and other MPs threw eggs and yogurt at the building and burned a Turkish flag.

In May 2013, Panagiotaros said during an interview on the Australian TV channel SBC that the people of Greece should rather be those responsible than kill themselves. He also said that Chrysí Avgí will soon have the same status as Hezbollah in Lebanon. The party installed a kind of second government to take care of the Greek citizens and, for example, received more calls for help than the normal Greek police.

On September 28, 2013, Panagiotaros and other high-ranking party members were arrested for forming a criminal organization.

Political career

On April 21, 2004, members of the Chrysi Avgi, former members of the Laikos Orthodoxos Synagermos and some other members of right-wing political groups founded the Patriotic Alliance . The head of the party was Dimitrios Zaphiropoulos. Panagiotaros acted as deputy.

Panagiotaros has been a member of the Greek Parliament since 2012. In October 2012 he asked Interior Minister Evripidis Stylianidis to compile precise statistics on children with a migrant background . Already during the election in June 2012 he said: "If Chrysí Avgí is elected to parliament, she will kick out all illegal immigrants and their children from hospitals and kindergartens".
