Ilya Grubert

Ilja Haimovich Grubert ( Russian Илья Хаймович Груберт , Latvian Iļja Grūberts ; born May 13, 1954 in Riga ) is a Latvian violinist .

life and career

Ilja Grubert began his violin studies at the Emīls Dārziņš Music School in Riga. At the age of fourteen he continued his training with well-known Russian violin teachers such as Yuri Issajewitsch Jankelewitsch , Sinaida Grigorjewna Gilels and Leonid Borissowitsch Kogan at the Moscow Conservatory . In 1975 Grubert was honored at the International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition in Helsinki . In 1977 he won first prize at the Paganini Competition in Genoa and in 1978 first prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition . Grubert has performed with numerous renowned orchestras such as the Moscow Philharmonic, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic , the Dresden Staatskapelle , the Russian State Symphony Orchestra and the Helsinki Philharmonic and toured numerous countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and all of Europe. He lives in the Netherlands and teaches at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam .
