Ilya Rogoff

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ilja Rogoff is the advertising figure who advertised the garlic dragees of the same name from a company founded by Max Woelm, honorary citizen of Spangenberg and later for the Bayer AG product , and whose image still adorns the packaging of the successor product today (as of May 2018).

Ilya Rogoff was alleged to have been a Russian, Caucasian or Bulgarian mountain farmer in the 20th century who lived to be 130 years old because he regularly ate garlic. It is probably a fictional character. In fact, there are always reports that in the Balkan Mountains or in the Caucasus individual people have remained very vital into old age thanks to their simple and natural way of life. In Bulgaria , fresh garlic is an everyday and natural ingredient in numerous dishes. The image that you can still find on every package of Ilja Rogoff pills today was based on the description of a contemporary. In addition to garlic powder, the Bayer drug also contains the medicinal plants hawthorn , mistletoe , hops and rutin from the buds of the Japanese pagoda tree . It is said to stimulate blood circulation and strengthen the heart, lower blood pressure and also calm it down, thus helping to improve general wellbeing.

The character of Ilya Rogoff is so popular that he is often reflected in fiction and entertainment literature .
