The first edition of the Illustrierte Oesterreichischen Journal from March 20, 1906

Illustrierte Oesterreichisches Journal was the title of an Austrian newspaper that was published in Vienna between 1906 and 1920 .

The Illustrierte Oesterreichische Journal was a newspaper founded and published by Moritz Deutsch, the first edition of which appeared on March 20, 1906. The newspaper consisted of eight pages and showed two large-format representations of well-known personalities as well as photographs of sights, cities or landscapes. The main focus was on politics, economics and theater, with two reports always dedicated to the images shown. The Illustrierte Oesterreichische Journal appeared three times a month until 1913 (on the 1st, 10th and 20th of the month), after which the frequency was shortened to twice a month (1st and 15th of the month). During the First World War , the newspaper only appeared once a month from December 1914 onwards, and the length of the newspaper was reduced to four to six pages during the war. After the end of the First World War, the monthly publication and the four-page volume were retained. The last issue of the journal is documented on January 10, 1920.

As the predecessor of the Illustrated Oesterreichischen Journal , the Oesterr was from 1874 . Journal was founded. From December 1875 the newspaper was published under the title Oesterreichisches Journal u. General Oesterreichische Assecuranz-Zeitung and in March 1876 in Oesterr. Journal u. general oesterr. Renamed Insurance Newspaper . Sometimes the title was also Illustrirtes oesterr. Journal . From December 1875 the newspaper added the addition of a magazine for politics, folk science and the like. social interests . The newspaper contained supplements such as the Oesterr. National-Oekonom or the Oesterreichischer National-Oekonom , the supplement to the oesterr. Journal , the general oesterr. Insurance newspaper and oesterr. National-Oekonom as well as the general oesterr. Insurance newspaper . In 1876 the publication of the newspaper was stopped.

An Oesterreichisches Journal publishing house had existed as a stock corporation since around 1870, so the name was well established in Vienna. When the Neue Freie Presse , NFP, parted with its predecessor, this company was involved in the separation. A final proof of the publisher's name can be found for the morning edition of the NFP at the end of September 1938.

The name Oesterreichisches Journal also appeared as a publisher's name for books in the late 1920s. His most famous product is Stefan Zweig's report on his trip to the Soviet Union in the first edition. In 2018 only very few products from this book publisher are bibliographically verifiable or antiquarian in trade. The German National Library , which is also responsible for Austria, does not know the publisher or its products at all. The collections of novels could have been book editions of previous reprints in the NFP, further clarifications are required.

At ANNO , the editions up to the beginning of November 1919 can currently (2018) be viewed as a scan and searchable for keywords.
