Ilse Ipsen (* 1950 in Germany ) is a German-American mathematician and university professor . Her research areas include numerical linear algebra , randomized algorithms, numerical analysis , matrix theory.

Life and research

Ipsen studied at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern , where she completed her intermediate diploma in computer science / mathematics summa cum laude in 1977 . In 1983 she did her doctorate with Don Heller at the Pennsylvania State University with the dissertation: Systolic Arrays for VSLI. From 1983 to 1993 she worked in the field of computer science at Yale University in New Haven as a researcher, assistant professor and from 1988 as associate professor. At the same time she did research in 1984 and 1985 at the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering at the Langley Research Center of NASA and 1986 in the Atomic Energy Research Establishment , the former major center for nuclear research and development in the UK . From 1993 to 1998 she was an associate professor and then became a professor of mathematics at North Carolina State University .
