Ilse Staff (born May 16, 1928 in Hanover ; † November 15, 2017 ) was a German legal scholar .

Life

Ilse Staff studied law at the Universities of Würzburg , Frankfurt and Pisa . She passed the state examinations in law in 1952 and 1957. From 1965 she taught as a lecturer, from 1971 to 1993 as professor for public law at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . She was the first woman to do her habilitation in public law in the German-speaking world, and she was the first female professor in the Frankfurt legal department. As a constitutional law teacher and representative of the Frankfurt School , she was one of the first to work to come to terms with the responsibility of lawyers in the Third Reich .

She was married to Curt Staff , who was President of the Higher Regional Court in Frankfurt am Main from 1951 to 1969.

Ilse Staff Prize

In honor of the deceased, the Law Faculty of the Goethe University has been awarding the “Ilse Staff Prize” at the graduation ceremony since 2017 for the best academic paper of the previous year. So far:

  • 2016: Lucia Fabiola Franke ( on the reconstruction of rule-exception structures in formal argumentation models. A comparative consideration of the Toulmin model and other models ) together with Steffen Michael Jauß ( normative structural elements in the contract between Ramses II. And Hattusili III. )
  • 2017: Sarah Zink ( The implementation of Directive (EU) 2016/1919 of the European Parliament and of the Council of October 26, 2016 on legal aid for suspects and accused persons in criminal proceedings in German criminal procedure law ) together with Paul Lorenz ( Human rights and the right of reservations on international treaties - do special rules apply? )
  • 2018: Sophie Papadileris ( The protection of the members of UN peace operations through international criminal law and the Convention on the Protection of UN Personnel. Limitation of protection with regard to possible participation in combat operations ) together with Christopher Scheid ( Constitutional jurisdiction - a foreign body in the democratic system ? )
