In the Service of Her Majesty - Licensed by Royalty (original title L / R -Licensed by Royal- ) is a Japanese anime series from 2003. The series was directed by Itsurō Kawasaki.

action

Jack Hofner (always in a white suit) and disguise specialist Rowe Rickenbacker are secret agents in the Cloud Seven organization in the (fictional) kingdom of Ishtar. If the royal family has special assignments to give, they are the right men for it, because they do not fear any risky assignment or even the most dangerous opponent to protect the crown. They are also known by the code name L / R.

At the beginning of the series, Rowe Rickenbacker's and Jack Hofner's first missions are of various kinds, such as stopping the smuggling of works of art, preventing an attack on a conference, or taking out a dangerous sniper named Gray F. Stratos . This sniper is set on the two, but after they can convince him of the injustice of his actions, Stratos leaves and leaves Ishtar for the time being. Furthermore, in episode three they get to know the young Noelle Adelaide , who comes from the (fictional) island of Ivory and later turns out to be a missing member of the royal family.

From the middle of the series until shortly before the end, the focus shifts to fighting the terrorist Angel, who lets bombs explode at various targets in Ishtar. It is later revealed that Angel is a group of five young men hailing from the Ivory . They wanted to take revenge for the fact that their island was mercilessly exploited by the DTI group, which is covered by the royal family. It is also shown that Noelle knew the men and was friends with them.

The last part of the series is about exposing the dark machinations of DTI. For this purpose Jack Hofner smuggled into DTI disguised as a Jew McManus , contacted Noelle and explained the plan to her. Meanwhile, Mr. Pennylane, the supervisor of L / R, apparently forms an alliance with DTI director Taylor and orders Rowe to kill Noelle. The head of DTI, however, sees through the game and takes Des, the scientist from Cloud Seven, and Claire Pennylane, Mr. Pennylane's daughter, hostage. Noelle reveals that her father, who was executed for the alleged murder of his younger brother, actually saw through the illegal machinations between the DTI and the current regent. Because Noelle also saw through these machinations, the DTI wanted to have Noelle murdered too.

After Noelle has announced this, Rowe storms into the stands of the princess and apparently shoots her. After the fact Rowe flees, searches for and finds Taylor's son and disguises him as himself. Taylor now demands of his people to catch the assassin, which they seem to succeed. When the head of the DTI then presents the assassin, he is unmasked so that it looks as if DTI wanted to attach the crime to Cloud Seven. Meanwhile, Des and Claire are freed and Taylor's son escapes. Taylor flees to the DTI headquarters, where he expects the two of them on the roof. With the help of the sniper Ray F. Stratos they manage to put him out of action. In the end, it turns out that Noelle is still alive and that the assassination attempt was only made and that she will leave Ishtar to see more of the world. The series ends with Taylor Rowe's son stabbing from behind. Jack confronts him, and the last thing to be heard is a shot, whereby it can be assumed that Jack was the first to fire, as a red cartridge case can be seen, which was also used in the fake attack on Noelle.
