action

Ten-year-old twin sisters Garnet and Ruby live with their father and grandmother. Your mother died many years ago. The twin sisters have come to terms with this situation.

But her father becomes unemployed. He also got to know Rose. Her father wants to use the unemployment for a fresh start. His dream is a small bookstore in the country. So the family is moving. Garnet and Ruby are not at all enthusiastic about that. But their protest is of no use, and the family moves to the country, while the grandmother goes to a senior citizen's apartment. The twins don't want to give up without a fight. They want to drive Rose out of the house and move back into her old apartment. Their motto is "We are absolutely identical". And so they try to achieve these goals together.

But Rose soon has no difficulty telling the twin sisters apart. Because they look the same on the outside, but they have very different characters. Garnet is the shy one, while Ruby is very daring. And so it is Garnet who first seeks contact with her new mother Rose. But she is held back by Ruby because Garnet always gives in and in the end does what Ruby wants. After all, they are twins and absolutely identical.

And so the two stick together in their new environment. For example, there is a gang of boys that they mess with and always emerge victorious. Encouraged by these successes, they choose to behave badly in school. Her idea is that if they leave school, their father will have to move back with them. They get into trouble as a result, but their plan doesn't work.

Ruby spots an ad in the newspaper. Twins are wanted for a film. Acting has always been her big dream. Garnet, on the other hand, is far too shy to appear in front of people. But since Ruby persuades them as usual, they finally ask their father to go to the casting. But he doesn't want to know anything about it and so the children secretly drive there.

During the casting, Ruby makes a good impression on the judges. Garnet, on the other hand, makes no sound. Her father followed them to the casting and picks them up. As she leaves, Ruby hears the judges' decision: that she is good, but her sister is not. Ruby is mad at Garnet because of this.

After the twins are reconciled, a new idea occurs to them. The film you auditioned for is set in a boarding school. And this time it's Garnet who is particularly impressed by this idea. The school even has a scholarship to offer. After the two girls take an aptitude test, Garnet is accepted into the school. But that would mean that the twins have to separate.

Now Ruby is really mad at her sister and doesn't want anything to do with her anymore. From then on she dresses differently from her sister. But the girls finally speak out. While they are different, they will always be twins. And so Garnet goes to boarding school, while Ruby will soon be taking an acting class.

analysis

The coming-of-age film starts at a very early age for this genre, otherwise such elements are more likely to be found in youth films . The fact that the protagonists are twins also shows a special development.

With twins, the desire for individuality and the resulting identification and demarcation develops in earlier years . Due to the young age of the protagonists, the subject of personality development becomes comprehensible for smaller children, so that they can deal with it at an early stage and thus prepare them for their own development.
