There is no beer in Heaven (English: In Heaven There Is No Beer , Spanish: En el Cielo No Hay Cerveza ) is a German drinking song . The lyrics were written by Ernst Neubach . In 1956 the song was premiered by Ralph Maria Siegel . The song was originally composed for the German film Die Fischerin vom Bodensee from 1956 by Ernst Neubach and Ralph Maria Siegel. Two Ton Baker (actually: Dick Baker) translated the German drinking song into English , but it is disputed whether Joe Trolli and Frankie Yankovic also took part in the translation.

influence

The drinking song served as the inspiration for the title and content of the Sundance Film Festival winner In Heaven There Is No Beer? from 1984, where the drinking song Who Stole the Kishka? is used.

Uses at sporting events

The song is very popular in the United States because it is often performed at sporting events of all kinds, especially university sporting events, where the song is always played by the school band. For some universities, such as the University of Iowa , the song has become an anthem and is played after each team wins. In the University of Minnesota , University of Wyoming and University of Wisconsin , the song also became an anthem.

Lyrics (excerpt)

There's no beer in heaven, so
let's drink it here.
Because if we are no longer here,
then the others drink our beer.
