Immunophenotyping

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The immunophenotyping is one in medicine , in particular of hematology , immunology and biology method used for analyzing the expression of different antigens on the surface of cells . From the expression pattern, conclusions can be drawn about belonging to a certain cell series, the degree of differentiation of the cells or a certain type. Often, blood and bone marrow cells are measured using immunophenotyping at various stages of maturation.

Immunophenotyping is of particular importance in the classification of leukemias , in particular acute and chronic lymphatic leukemia and non-Hodgkin lymphomas . The antigen profile of the corresponding cells is determined with the aid of labeled monoclonal antibodies . Many of the examined antigens is in the CD nomenclature recognized leukocyte antigens. The examination is usually carried out on cell suspensions, the most frequently used method to detect the individual antigens is flow cytometry (FACS analysis).
