Imperia is a multinational symphonic metal band with operatic influences, around Helena Iren Michaelsen, the former singer of Trail of Tears and Sahara Dust (later renamed Epica ).

history

At Easter 2004 the two Norwegian musicians Helena Iren Michaelsen and Audun Gronnestad founded the band Imperia together with John Stam from the Netherlands , Jan Yrlund from Finland , Gerry Verstreken from Belgium and Stefan Wolz from Germany . The band first appeared with the song Lotus Eaters , a cover of Dead Can Dance . Shortly afterwards they got a record deal with the Dutch record label Ebony Tears . In the summer of 2004 they began to play their first concerts and shows for the first time. In autumn, Imperia's debut album The Ancient Dance of Quetesh was released , which was only released in Belgium. The band then played other concerts in Belgian and Dutch clubs. They also gave a concert with Nightwish in Amsterdam , which was sold out.

In 2005, the band dedicated themselves to their side project Angel and wrote more songs for their second album.

In February 2006, the band began recording Queen of Light , which was completed in the summer of the same year. While looking for a new label to bring their album onto the market, they came across the German metal label Massacre Records , which released their album in March 2007. The idea for the name comes from the birth of Helena's daughter, who was born during the recording of the album.

In 2011, the album Secret Passion was released on schedule , after which the band took a short break. In the fall of 2015, the band announced their fourth album, Tears of Silence , which was finally released on November 20, 2015.

style

The music style of Imperia can be classified into the symphonic metal category , but is sometimes also assigned to Gothic metal . The band calls their style "Atmospheric Metal". The music is also referred to as "bombastic metal with typically epic and orchestral elements". Singer Helena Michaelsen usually sings in the dramatic soprano .

fishing rod

In addition to Imperia, the band is working on another project called Angel. So far in 2005 they released the album A Woman's Diary - Chapter I and the single Don't Wanna Run on Black Lotus Records . In contrast to Imperia, Angel's style is very diverse and contains characteristics of alternative rock as well as dark rock and pop music .
