Imperio Argentina
Imperio Argentina actually Magdalena Nile del Río (born December 26, 1906 in Buenos Aires , Argentina , † August 22, 2003 in Benalmádena near Málaga , Spain ) was an Argentine-Spanish singer and film actress .
The Queen of the Song was one of the most famous Spanish-speaking singers. Magdalena was born in the tango district of San Telmo in Buenos Aires. She was the daughter of a guitarist from Gibraltar and a Spanish actress. Her career as a singer began at the age of six .
Her husband was the director Florián Rey . She made many Spanish films with him in the 1930s, some of them in Berlin . Adolf Hitler , one of her supporters, offered her to settle in Germany . She refused because she did not want to be used for the propaganda purposes of National Socialism . She also experienced the change from black and white to color film. In 1992 she sang alongside Rocio Jurado in the musical Azabache , which was organized for Expo 92 .
Imperio Argentina died of a heart condition in southern Spain.
