Rocío Jurado

Maria del Rocio Trinidad Mohedano Jurado (born September 18, 1946 in Chipiona , Cádiz province , † June 1, 2006 in Madrid ) was a Spanish singer and actress .

Jurado was married to the boxer Pedro Carrasco . They had a daughter together. After her divorce from Carrasco, she married the torero José Ortega Cano and adopted two children.

Career

Rocio Jurado began her career in a show by the singer Principe Gitano with the song Tengo Miedo . In 1962 she had her breakthrough with the film Los guerrilleros on the side of Manolo Escobar . She later starred in the film Proceso a una estrella in 1966 and in Una chica casi decente in 1971 . In the meantime she lived in Argentina and appeared in the musical La zapatera prodigiosa , which was based on the work of Federico García Lorca . Through the collaboration with the composer Manuel Alejandro , Jurado became a popular figure in Latin American music and was best known for the music titles Muera el amor and Señora .

In 1990 she sang with Lola Flores in the music show Juntos por primera vez . In 1992 she sang with Juana Reina , María Vidal and Imperio Argentina in the musical Azabache which was arranged for Expo92. It is called La mas grande (the greatest) in Spain . In 2004, she announced her cancer disease to the public at a press conference. In 2005 she made her last CD Rocio ... siempre in which she sings with David Bisbal , Raphael and Chayanne . In 2006 the last interview will be broadcast on Spanish television. After a short stay in the USA, she returns to Spain to die in Madrid on June 1st. When stepping on Spanish soil, she is awarded the "medalla al merito del trabajo" (Spanish medal of honor for life's work) with immediate effect. Her death causes mass hysteria in Spain. Artists such as Pedro Almodóvar , Carmen Sevilla , Joaquín Cortés , José Mercé , Paquita Rico , Marujita Diaz and Julio Iglesias , as well as her husband the bullfighter José Ortega Cano appear at the funeral. Alongside Lola Flores, she was the most important singer in the Copla andaluza .
