Imre furmen

Imre Furmen (born August 14, 1933 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Furmen was initially active as a boxer before he switched to cycling in 1948 and joined the Partizán SC club . In 1950 he moved to Honvéd Budapest . During the popular uprising in Hungary he went to France with Richárd Bicskey and competed in races. In April 1957 both returned to Hungary. He switched to the FTC Budapest club . Furmen was a track cyclist who occasionally drove road races.

Furmen was a participant in the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki . In the tandem race , he took 5th place with István Schillerwein . In the team pursuit , Hungary (Imre Furmen, István Lang , István Pásztor , István Schillerwein) was ranked 10th. At the student world championships in Budapest in 1954, the Hungarian four-man won the gold medal in this line-up.

His record of Hungarian championship titles on the track includes 13 national titles:

  • in tandem races 1951, 1952, 1954 (with István Schillerwein), 1955 (with Béla Szekeres ), 1956 with ( János Söre ), 1958 and 1960 with (Richard Bicskey)
  • in two-man team driving 1951 (with Lajos Sipos ), 1956 with (Richard Bicskey)
  • in the team pursuit 1952 with Géza Karakas , István Pásztor and István Schillerwein (Honvéd Budapest), 1954 with István Pásztor, István Schillerwein and Béla Szekeres (Honvéd), 1955 with Béla Bartusek , István Pásztor and István Schillerwein 1956 with Honván Schillerwein István Pásztor and János Söre (Honvéd).

Professional

Furmen was initially a member of the Hungarian army. He later trained as a metal cutter and worked in this profession. For a short time he was also the coach of the national team for railroad drivers.
