Mafia: Definitive Edition is a soon appearing action adventure - video game , that of Hangar 13 developed and 2K Games is published. As a remake of the 2002 video game Mafia , it was announced in May 2020 and is slated for release in September 2020 for Microsoft Windows , PlayStation 4 and Xbox One . Set in a redesigned version of the fictional city of Lost Heaven (based on Chicago ) in the 1930s, the game follows the rise and fall of Tommy Angelo, who turned from taxi driver to mobster , within the Salieri criminal family.

Gameplay

Mafia: Definitive Edition was conceived as a full remake of the original and built from the ground up with new assets and an expanded story, although missions have been carried over from the original game. As with the 2002 game, players control Tommy Angelo throughout the game's single player campaign, and his world is navigated on foot or by vehicle . New to the remake is the introduction of motorcycles , a first in the series. The game mechanics of Mafia: Definitive Edition are based on those of Mafia III . There will also be a "Classic Difficulty" setting, which will serve as the hardest difficulty setting in the game, changing some game mechanics such as ammunition management and how police react to crime to better match the original 2002 game.

action

Impoverished taxi driver Thomas "Tommy" Angelo was attacked in revenge by members of the Morello family in 1930 after forcing two members of the Salieri family - Paulie and Sam - to escape an ambush by the rival Morello family. While being rescued by the Salieri family after demanding a favor that Ennio Salieri promised him, Tommy loses his job after his employers learn of his involvement in the Mafia . Due to the lack of job opportunities due to the ongoing Great Depression , Tommy is forced to accept Salieri's offer to join his organization and soon becomes friends with Paulie and Sam while they do various jobs together.

In the years that followed, the Salieri and Morello families wage a bitter war for control of Lost Heaven as Tommy starts a family and becomes disillusioned with the violent and decadent lifestyle he now leads. Tommy's life as a family man leads him to question his morals and break his orders when it comes to murdering certain people. When Salieri finally finds out about this, Tommy sees himself betrayed by his former allies and, fearing for the safety of his family, arranges witness protection with Detective Norman in exchange for a testimony against the Salieri family. The entire game is told as a flashback as Tommy Norman explains his rise to prominence and his possible fall within Salieri's organization.

development

On May 13, 2020 was of 2K Games , a remake of Mafia titled Mafia: Definitive Edition as part of the Trilogy: Mafia announced - an attempt Mafia to remaken, Mafia II to remaster and Mafia III update. It is being developed by Hangar 13 and offers an "extended story, gameplay and original score". The release is planned for September 25, 2020 for Xbox One , PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows . It was previously supposed to be out on August 28, but has been postponed to September 25 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

The English-language soundtrack for the game was recorded with a different cast, with Italian-Australian actor Andrew Bongiorno giving Tommy Angelo his voice, likeness and motion capture performance. Hangar 13 President Haden Blackman stated, "Since our cinematics are heavily reliant on motion detection data, it is important that we perform both verbally and physically." They wanted to make sure that the actors not only "see the role" but can perform well in both motion capture and voice-over booths. Conversely, the Czech dub had most of the surviving cast members from the 2002 game repeat their roles for the remake, namely Marek Vašut , who returned to speak to Tommy.

Another important change in the new edition was a complete redesign of the original settings of the game. To help with the redesign, the development team focused on revising the style of American cities around the 1920s and 1930s after World War I and improving the atmosphere and aesthetic design of the various neighborhoods, as well as redesigning several neighborhoods, and in some cases completely renamed - as an example, the Chinatown district has been redesigned in its original environment to make it more recognizable as a district inhabited by Chinese immigrants through the style of the buildings and decorations . The street layout has also been modified to include changes to corners and intersections to allow for smoother driving mechanics, adding new shortcuts and alleys to the map, and moving different buildings and landmarks to new locations to ensure players are not the same Had to take the route to reach them as in the original game - the developers of Hanger 13 used special data mapping systems called "heatmaps" to observe the driving patterns of players as they travel from place to place on missions to assess how to change this for the new edition.
