Imre Henszlmann
Emerich Henszlmann (born October 13, 1813 in Kaschau ; † December 6, 1888 in Budapest ) from 1872 Magyarized as Imre Henszlmann was a Hungarian archaeologist and art historian of German descent.

Imre Henszlmann studied medicine at the universities in Pest and Vienna, but then turned to art archeology and went on long trips. Returning to Pest in 1840, he worked for various magazines and published, among other things, a Hungarian work in 1840: “Parallels between the views of art and the education for art in the old and new times”.
1848-49 he had to survive a political imprisonment of eight months in Vienna due to his position in the then Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1852 to 1860 he lived partly in London and partly in Paris ; then he went on a trip to Constantinople and Athens, from where he returned to Hungary in 1862. From 1873 he was professor of art history at the University of Pest .
Among his numerous publications we mention: "The old German churches of the city of Kaschau" (Hungarian, 1846); also “Théorie des proportions appliquées dans l'architecture à Paris” (1860); "Studies on the Art of the Goths" (1874); “The Gothic Monuments of Hungary” (1880); "The Architecture of Central Syria" (1881). He reported in special writings on the excavations of the old royal church in Stuhlweißburg (1862 and 1864), the Metropolitan Church in Kalocsa (1873) and the royal castle of Visegrad (1872), which he directed.
