Imrich Tomáš (* 1948 in Dobrá , Slovakia ) is a German painter. He lives and works in Berlin .

Life

Imrich Tomáš was born in Slovakia. His special kind of artistic expression and his initially strange interpretation of the world in paintings and sculptures made him an outsider in his country of origin beyond his being in Rome . Because in socialist society there was no understanding of his special aesthetic point of view and thus no perspective and no possibility of combining life and art into a satisfactory whole for the freedom of his artistic creation.

So in 1969, the then 21-year-old submitted an application to leave the Federal Republic of Germany. There he earned his living as an unskilled worker and thus financed the painting lessons that were supposed to prepare him for admission to the art college. In various Kreuzberg pubs he met the emerging, young Berlin art scene. It gave him a new, freer approach to literature, philosophy and art history - especially that of painting and inspiring contact with artists from all over the world.

In 1974 he successfully applied to the Berlin University of the Arts . In 1980 he completed his studies in the field of “Fine Arts” with a master class award. His professor was Horst Hirsig , also a representative of abstract , non-representational painting.

Tomáš prefers to work with materials such as hemp fibers , pigments and synthetic resins .
